On February 13, 2024, we officially announced our Campus Master Plan, outlining how Rockwell Middle School would take its place along the quad and our ever-evolving physical plant. At that time, the site was untouched, the plans still lines on paper, and the excitement just beginning to build.

Now, that vision is becoming a reality. The steel framework for Rockwell Middle School stands tall. Exterior walls are taking shape. Inside, hallways and classrooms are already beginning to emerge—spaces where future generations of students will explore, grow, and flourish. What once felt distant is now becoming tangible, and each day brings us closer to a more connected, dynamic campus—where students move with confidence toward their futures, and where learning moves with the world.

The transformation is more than a series of construction projects. It is a bold investment that will strengthen how Shady Side delivers on our mission and the three components of our core strategic vision: relational teaching, a balanced and informed worldview, and real-world learning.

October 2024 update

Shady Side Academy’s ambitious plan to build the new Rockwell Middle School is rapidly moving forward and progressing on schedule, thanks to the hard work of our dedicated team and construction partners. Set to be completed by January 2026, the project has already reached key milestones, including the structural steel phase, with work on track to finish soon. Read more.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building was held on Monday, May 20 to celebrate this momentous event and was attended by lead donors, trustees, administration, faculty, and students. Read more.
