Asked Questions

What will the 423 Fox Chapel Road Campus be referred to once the Middle School is relocated?

As part of our commitment to provide education that embraces relational teaching, offers a balanced worldview, and prepares students through real-world learning, Shady Side Academy will introduce one campus for grades 6 to 12 known as the Upper School Campus—a unified home for the next generation of thinkers and leaders.

What spaces will be shared by Middle School and Senior School Students?

Both Senior School and Middle School students will utilize spaces in the McIlroy Center for Science and Innovation, Hillman Center for Performing Arts, and Robert J. Grandizio Athletic Complex. They will also continue to share athletics facilities and fields for after-school athletics as they currently do.

Are there ways the Academy plans to create intentional interactions between Middle and Senior School students and faculty?

While the new Middle School will largely provide students with a self-contained experience specific to their developmental needs, a 6–12 campus will provide new opportunities for peer leadership programming across divisions, with Senior School students more easily able to mentor and collaborate with their Middle School peers.

What will happen to the current Middle School property?

We are exploring all avenues and will make a responsible, mission-aligned decision that furthers our ability to provide a unique and valuable education to SSA families.
